New changes are coming to DMs on Instagram, bridging the gap between Meta and iMessage.
Meta announced on Monday Three major changes for Instagram DMs that actually look pretty cool: editing messages, pinning messages, changing your read receipts, and more capabilities regarding stickers.
Instagram may be developing Snapmap Deep to find your friends
You can now edit a message up to 15 minutes after sending it, to correct a typo or add some additional context or reason. Editing is exactly the same as how you can edit text on iMessage: just press and hold the sent message and select “Edit” from the dropdown menu. The word “Edited” will appear above the message, but other users will not be able to see the original message that you edited. It’s already started, so you can give it a shot anytime.
You can pin up to three groups or a single chat at the top of your inbox. This is like your favorite contacts in iMessage. To move the chat up, swipe left or tap the chat. Then tap on “Pin”. You can’t do it yet, but Meta said it will be available “soon.”
Currently, you can change whether your read receipts are on or off for an individual chat — a feature launched just a few months ago. To turn off read receipts, go to “Settings and privacy,” scroll down to “Messages and story replies,” then click “Show read receipts,” and toggle it on or off. Finally, you can save your favorite stickers by pressing and holding to save a sticker, making it easy to find.
While some of these changes are just Instagram copying iMessage, I can’t say I’m crazy.
